The Silom Road goes from the river Chao Phraya eastwards in Bangkok. It is is a site of modernity partly interwoven with traditional life. East meets West in globalized fashion on this road. The "tree" above is near the Holiday Inn. Further up, the Silom Village restaurant is a modern version of Thai cuisine in the open air. A number of expert craftsmen operate in some of the alleys on the north side of the road. There is a Hindu temple on the south side dedicated to Mariamman and founded in the late 1880s.
